The Dinner Game/Le dîner de cons (The Dinner of Idiots) ★★★☆☆
Le dîner de cons

Tell No One/Ne le dis à personne ★★★★★
Ne le dis à personne

A History of Violence ★★★★☆
A History of Violence
The Number 23

Big Fish
Michael J. Fox

你推薦的A History of Violence 應該是好看多了...

You surprised me with Francis Veber!!! How did you discover his movies?
I have seen almost all of them - starting from old "The Toy" (Le Jouet), with brilliant Pierre Richard, and finishing with "The Closet" (Le placard). About "The dinner with an idiot", for me it is very amusing, but at the same time heart-stirring, warm and kind movie. You can forget about everything and simply relax... love it :)

Also, i've seen the "Tell no one". Really don't like it :(((
Strong rule for me, is that French are really bad at thrillers. There is only one exception: Leon
Maybe you will like the famous "The Crimson rivers"...

Can you recommend Interstate 60? After "Back to the future" every movie with Michael Fox and Christopher Lloyd must be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Roman

You surprised me by being able to read this!

A lot of these movies come from the Netflix recommendation. I think "rating movies to get recommendation" works great with me. Because I don't know enough about movies.

I don't view "Tell no one" as a thriller so much as a good drama. It's like a detective story. I'll for sure go check out "The Crimson Rivers".

But in Interstate 60, neither of them (Lloyd and Fox) play major roles. Actually, the director asked them to guest star so that more funding will be available for the movie because of their fame.

That was my point. Instead of making a thriller, they focus on main hero's feeling and love story. And i have to admit that they are pro at this - other words, the movie's melodramatic line is perfect. I enjoyed it too.

But what is good for drama, as "English patient" or "Jane Eyre", does not work for thriller, because the whole story starts to look artificially and absurdly. For example, the Lady-Killer character, which reminds a robot, looks unreasonable... what is the purpose of 'to be scared by her'?

I agree that all thrillers are based on, more or less, artificial stories and characters. But it is compensated (or should be) by suspense and action speed - so, you don't have time think about the plot. Thrillers are of low level of entertainment, for me of course.

All, what i've said, can be expressed shortly. I respect Drama much more than Thriller. In my opinion, they serve to the different purposes. Admixing 'thriller plot' into a Drama must be done very carefully.

PS. Hope you're not against such big comments - i just had 20min of free time and wished to chat :))

Big comments are not a problem-- I am glad that anyone is reading my post.

I was actually quite impressed by the lady-killer character. I enjoyed watching her unique way of torturing and killing. There is no purpose to it, and it's abrupt in the movie-- I agree. But I still enjoyed it. I guess it's a choice whether to keep the movie feeling consistent or to throw in whatever the creator wants to attempt.

after your remarkable phrase - "I enjoyed watching her unique way of torturing and killing", i have found a movie, which i'll never dare to recommend to any of my friends... except you. Ha-ha. Let see if i can get it.
